Description
UFANO, Diego. Artillerie, c'est a dire vraye instruction de l'artillerie et de toutes ses appartenances... A Rouen, chez David du Petit Val, 1628. In-4, (2) ff. including engraved title, 144-6 pp. 26 plates. Contemporary spotted fawn calf (binding worn and restored, quires out of order with a few leaves unbound, defects including wormholes, short margins, small tears, etc.) French translation of this treatise on artillery by Diego Ufano. The original Spanish Tratado de la artillería was first published in Brussels in 1612, before being translated and published simultaneously in French and German by the artist and publisher Johann Theodor de Bry (1561-1623), who designed the illustration for the work. The present edition is the last to appear and the only one to be published in France. The original French edition was published in Frankfurt by Egenolff Emmel in 1614 and republished in Zutphen in 1621. It contains 26 black copper engravings. Absent from Graesse, which only cites 1621 and 16 plates.
