EINSTEIN, Albert (1879–1955). L.S. ‘A. Einstein’, 11 July 1942, to Marvin H. Rubin in Atlanta; 1 page, large 8vo (small traces of adhesive), stamped envelope; in English. Typed reply in the margin of a geometric diagram sent by the student Rubin. ‘Dear Sir: the proof of the congruence of the two triangles is correct––but the conclusion drawn from this congruence is incorrect, as it is based on a misleading diagram. ” Translation: the proof of the congruence of the two triangles is correct, but the conclusion drawn from this congruence is incorrect, as it is based on a misleading drawing. And Einstein corrects the drawing in pencil. Attached is the typewritten problem; and the carbon copy of Rubin’s letter to Einstein (7 July, slits).
