Description:
A fine poem, which was included with variations under the title ‘Au fil de l’heure pâle’ in *Pour la musique* (1914); the manuscript contains two corrections, as well as variations from the published text, particularly in the opening lines. It comprises four stanzas.
‘As the day draws to a close, we walk, after the rain,
Along the walls of a park where beautiful trees stand in contemplation.
We follow them for a long time. The hour passes
As the hands of night slip along the old walls
But what troubles you as the pale hour slips by,
Edged by the black hands of the railings?
This evening, the calm after the rain has something
That brings to mind exile and the night’”…
