3 P.A. (one signed ‘Mermoz’, [June–July 1934]; on 3 pages of various sizes.
Signed autograph draft of a telegram, on the reverse of a long telegram urging Mermoz to return to France before the end of June (“by early July you will find a dead body in Couzinet’s studio” etc.): ‘Received your telegram after departure from Aviso. Deeply sorry and outraged by what has happened. May I bring your telegram to the Minister’s attention so that I may return on the next post. Mermoz’.
Transcription in Mermoz’s own hand of a coded telegram with its plaintext: “With the Minister’s authorisation, I can assure you that your early return is unnecessary as regards a possible order for the Arc en Ciel. Simply send a telegram to the Minister.”
Encrypted telegram sent from Rio and received by Mermoz in Natal on 30 June 1934, with autograph transcription: “Strictly confidential: request your return immediately; necessary by air or sea to help the Line remain French”.
