A long family letter to her brother-in-law [Rudolf Schenkel (1844–1899) had married Ida Oehler, Franziska’s younger sister].
She writes to him on a sheet of paper found amongst her Fritz’s papers (‘in den Papieren meines Fritz’) [her son Friedrich Nietzsche]. She thanks her dear Rudolph for his kindness, mentions a sermon (Predigt) they listened to together, a long walk in Bad Elster, the trip to Plauen, and a performance of *Maria Stuard* (“how hilarious *Maria Stuard* was, although I really did find it quite lovely and interesting to have seen the play once, as it brought everything back to mind”); Rudolph, despite his busy schedule, was pleasant company.
