ZOLA, Émile (1840–1902). Autograph letter signed ‘Émile Zola’, Paris, 27 September 1876, [to Philippe GILLE]; 1 page, in-8, stamped envelope. Description: He accepts his invitation to lunch: ‘And as I happen to be free tomorrow, Thursday, we shall leave it until tomorrow, if that is all right with you. MENDÈS, whom I met last night, mentioned your plan to me. I must admit I was very intrigued, and I still am’… He gives his address: ‘21, rue Saint-Georges (Batignolles)’. Enclosed is a handwritten letter on the same subject, Paris, 8 January 1889 (in poor condition, browned paper, with a hole); and a handwritten letter from the publisher Georges CHARPENTIER to Ph. Gille, 24 March 1875, announcing the forthcoming publication of Zola’s book (1 p., in-8, on paper with the ‘Bibliothèque Charpentier’ letterhead).
