MAROT, Clément. DE BEZE, Théodore. The Psalms of David, set to French verse. Charenton, Antoine Cellier, 1651. In-24, (169) ff., text ruled in red, printed musical scores. Contemporary red morocco, richly decorated in the so-called ‘Charenton’ style, ribbed spine decorated with dotted panels, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt edges (remnants of the clasp, slight wear to the ribs and end caps, a few leaves slightly out of order due to use). Description: Includes the ‘Forms of Ecclesiastical Prayers, Catechism and Prayers’ at the end. Printed music. A lovely Protestant psalter in its Charenton binding. The Charenton workshop, situated outside the walls of Paris, bound books produced by Protestant presses that could not be published within the city walls due to the ban on religious worship. A 17th-century edition of the Protestant version of the liturgy of the psalms by Marot and Beze. HUGEONOT PSALTER.
