BOCCACCIO. The Decameron. London, 1757–1761. 5 volumes in-8. Contemporary red long-grain morocco, smooth decorated spine, title and volume number in gold, gold fillet and star-motif embossing on the covers, gold roulettes on the edges and corners, gilt edges (corners slightly rubbed, stains on the upper cover of volume IV, minor foxing, a few leaves uniformly browned). Bibliography: Brunet, I, 1007. Cohen, 160. Description: A fine copy with wide margins on Dutch laid paper in its contemporary morocco binding. An illustrated edition featuring a portrait of the author engraved by Lempereur after Gravelot in Volume I, an engraved title page and 22 plates in each volume. That is, 110 copperplate engravings in black, based on compositions by Boucher, Cochin, Eisen and Gravelot, executed by Aliamet, Baquoy, Flipart, Le Grand, Le Mire, Le Veau, Martenisie, Moitte, Ouvrier, Pasquier, Pibre, Sornique and Tardieu. “One of the most successful illustrated books of the entire 18th century” (Cohen). A copy enriched with 17 very freely interpreted, unsigned copperplate engravings, bound with the volume. Numerous copperplate engravings as end-piece illustrations within the text.  Volume I. (3) folios: frontispiece, engraved title page, engraved title page for Vol. 1, VIII–320 pp., 25 plates – Volume II. Engraved title page, 292 pp., 27 plates – Volume III.
