2 volumes, large 8vo. (23)-191-(12) pp. and (31)-264 pp. On laid paper, with wide margins, frontispieces and numerous black copperplate engravings (figures, vignettes and end-piece illustrations), decorated headbands and initials. Slightly later red morocco Bradel binding (late 18th century), plain spine decorated with gilt panels featuring small ironwork motifs, gilt scrolls, title and volume number in navy morocco, gilt title, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges, gilded scrolls on the edges and endpapers, marbled paper endpapers (a few slight discolorations, very slight oxidation, some minor rubbing to the covers and the upper joint at the top of Volume I, 2 minor wormholes in the joint of Volume II, not serious).
Provenance:
A copy belonging to the writer and academician Jules Janin (1804–1874), bearing his gilt ex-libris on a piece of red leather.

First edition, second printing, in its contemporary English binding.
The work is entirely engraved.
A fine Latin edition of the works of the ancient poet Horace, published by the printer and engraver John Pine (1690–1756) and exquisitely illustrated, featuring both ancient medallions and reproductions of numerous Roman statues.
“Rare and sought-after” (Cohen, 497).
Bears the correction mark ‘CAESAR AUGUSTUS TRIBUN POTEST’ on page 108 of Volume II, indicating the second printing.
