Contemporary marbled havana calf, spine with 6 raised bands, burgundy title label, gilded floral panels, gilded roulette on the edges, red edges (binding worn with the upper jaw leather cracked, frontispiece title detached, a few water stains, quires slightly out of order with plates detached on pp. 48, 74, 104 and 121; a few stains on certain plates, particularly near the inner spine, the problem having been a little damp).

Large and beautiful allegorical frontispiece title page, engraved on copper after Parrocel by Cars.
Featuring the full coat of arms of Charles de Lorraine, the dedicatee, engraved in a banner.
Only two folio editions are known to exist; this is the second, augmented by a short ‘Treatise on Stud Farms’ at the end.
Contains (5) folios, including the frontispiece after Parrocel, title page, dedication and preface, 318 pages, (5) folios. Table of contents with approval and privilege on the reverse of the last leaf; 25 copperplate engravings in black, including 3 double-page plates by Parrocel or Coquart for the technical plates; 5 headbands by Parrocel.
