Description:
First edition, for which no large-format edition was published.
An exceptional copy enriched with 12 loose plates, engraved in black on copper by Félicien Rops after his own compositions, a series of engravings produced by the artist between 1882 and 1886 with a view to a new edition by Alphonse Lemerre; however, Rops’s prints never officially accompanied Barbey’s text as part of an illustrated edition.
A fine copy, well bound in morocco leather signed by Victor Champs.
“A very rare and highly sought-after volume, the edition having been partly destroyed following a lawsuit”
