Contemporary blue morocco, ribbed spine with gilt decoration, author’s name, title, place and date in gilt, gilt fillet borders forming geometric patterns on the panels, wide border of six intertwined gilt fillets on the covers, ornate chases, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges, original cover preserved [Chambolle-Duru] (tail cap slightly damaged). Bibliography: Vicaire, II, 194. Description: A very fine copy, elegantly bound by Chambolle-Duru. The illustrations consist of 34 etchings by Jules Adeline, including a frontispiece, a figure on the cover and numerous vignettes within the text. Rare. Print run limited to 500 copies, 150 of which are on Imperial Japanese paper; this is no. 41. Includes two states of the black etchings: one without the letter and one with it.
