ETINCELLE (pseudonym of Marie BIARD de PEYRONNY). FERDINANDUS. Diary of a Socialite. A Parisian Gazette of Anecdotes and Curiosities. [First and Second Years]. Paris. E. Rouveyre, 1881–1882. 2 volumes in-8, VIII–182 pp. (1) f. and (2) ff., 164 pp. Wine-coloured half-maroquin with period corners, raised ribbed spine, title, volume number and date in gold, richly decorated panels, double gilt line on the covers [L. Pouillet]. Note: First edition. Only one copy in the CCFr. The illustrations by Ferdinandus consist of colour plates on the covers, a colour plate in each volume, and numerous black-and-white vignettes within the text. A fine copy, well bound by Louis Pouillet. A work on bourgeois and aristocratic manners by this salon hostess, woman of letters and journalist, born Marie Biard (1840–1897), who took the title of Baroness Double through her marriage—a union that caused quite a stir at the time.
