Description
MERIMÉE. Carmen. Paris. C. Levy, 1884. In-8, frontispiece, (2) ff., 147 pp., illustrations. Fawn morocco, ribbed spine, author, title, place and date gilded, octagonal decoration comprising a pattern of multiple gilded lines and gilded ironwork on the panels and covers, double gilded line on the headbands and footbands, six gilt fillets on the chases, gilt edges, cover preserved [Chambolle-Duru] (foxing on the cover and a few pages). Description: A fine copy in an elegant signed morocco binding. The illustrations consist of a frontispiece, headpieces and end-piece illustrations.  The work was printed in a run of 275 copies, including 225 copies of an edition illustrated by S. Acros on vellum, of which this is no. 22. Bound with two sets of each illustration, including a frontispiece printed before the text, one of which is printed in grisaille. Full margins and partly to the block.
