Blue morocco, spine with 5 raised and dotted raised bands, author, title, place and date in gold, richly decorated panels, framing of three gilt fillets on the covers with fleurons in the spandrels, double gilt fillet on the headbands and footbands, gilt roulettes and fillets bordering the inner covers, gilt edges, original cover preserved [Chambolle-Duru] (very slight soiling on the upper cover, minor foxing on the endpapers and a few leaves at the beginning and end of the volume). Bibliography: Vicaire, V, 1248. Description: An illustrated edition featuring a portrait of the author engraved by Burney after a miniature by Marie Moulin, and 15 etchings by Mordant and Lucas after François Flameng and Oreste Cortazzo. Printed in a run of 500 copies, including 150 copies on large vellum paper, numbered and initialled by the publisher; this is no. 50. Engravings accompanied by a frontispiece. This copy is enhanced with a small watercolour portrait on the half-title page, signed by Cortazzo.
