NODIER, Charles. LELOIR. Le Bibliomane. Paris, L. Conquet, 1894. In-12, 44 pp., (2) ff. Contemporary green morocco Bradel binding, plain decorated spine, author’s name, title and date in gold, gold fillet framing on the covers, gold fillet on the headbands and edges, gold roulette on the corners, cover and spine preserved [Carayon] (spine and covers slightly faded, slight foxing). Bibliography: Vicaire, VI, 179–180, 109. Description: First separate edition of this short tale by Charles Nodier (1780–1844), which first appeared in *Paris, ou Le Livre des cent-et-un* (Ladvocat, 1831) and was subsequently included in *Contes de la veillée*. A passionate bibliophile and one of the forerunners of Romanticism, Nodier acquired old and rare editions with a taste and discernment that foreshadowed modern bibliophilia. A lovely copy, very well bound by Carayon. An edition illustrated by Maurice Leloir, featuring a colour-printed figure on the cover, a frontispiece, a plate and numerous in-text figures, wood-engraved by F. Noël. Printed in a run of 500 copies, including 150 special editions on Chinese and Japanese paper. This is no. 2 on Chinese paper. Engravings accompanied by a black-and-white suite. “A charming and beautiful publication on bibliophilia” Carteret IV, 305.
