Blue half-maroquin with corner pieces, spine with raised ribs, author’s name and title in gold, date stamped at the foot, blind-stamped border on the covers, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine preserved [Semet & Plumelle] (spine faded). First edition of this maritime novel, illustrated with a heliogravure portrait of the author. Printed in a run of 850 copies: one of the 75 on Japanese paper (no. LXIV, second paper after 25 on China paper). It contains the portrait in two states and a facsimile of the manuscript of the book’s first page. Provenance: L. Dousse (gilt bookplate on red paper, with the motto: ‘Dousse is friendship’). -FARRÈRE (Claude). SCHULZ. Mademoiselle Dax, a young lady. Paris, Jonquière, 1922. In-8, (2) blank folios, 272 pp. Havana morocco, spine with raised ribs, author’s name and title in gold, decoration of gold and blind-stamped fillets in the centre of the covers, orange box calf lining edge-to-edge, cognac suede endpapers, edges gilt on endpapers, cover and spine preserved, morocco-lined slipcase (slight scuffing on 2 raised ribs).
