Ottoman Qur’an Copied by El Sayed Ahmad el Hamdi ibn Pardjizadeh Ink, pigments and gold on paper Turkey, dated 1286 AH (1869 AD) 20 x 12.5 x 3 cm The Qur’an opens with an illuminated bifolio, featuring text set within medallions framed by cartouches decorated with polychrome floral motifs and gold, surmounted by mandorlas illuminated with floral scrolls. On the following folios, the text—comprising fifteen lines per page within gilded borders—features several marginal vignettes in polychrome and gold. The colophon gives the date 1286 AH (1869 AD), as well as the name of the scribe: ‘El Sayed Ahmad el Hamdi ibn Pardjizadeh, the pupil of El Sayed Mustafa el Halousi Shahrzadeh’.
