Description
BERTON de CRILLON: Philosophical Memoirs. Berton, 1779. 2 vols. in-8, 19th-century green half-shagreen, plain spine with decorative lettering (faded). Second edition, corrected and expanded, of these Memoirs of a so-called German philosopher, attributed to Abbé Crillon. It is illustrated with a frontispiece depicting Truth and Religion and three further aquatint plates within the text, including the famous plate depicting the interior of the Procope with the caption "Establishment of the new philosophy. Our Cradle was a café [sic]". Cohen attributes these plates to Louis Binet.
