RUSSELL: Memoirs of a Mountain Man. Pau, Vignancour, 1888. 12mo, publisher’s red cloth (spine faded, minor defects at the joints). Second edition, rare, following the legendary 1878 edition.This edition is regarded as the first by the author himself; however, he published a first edition in 1878, but was not satisfied with it. He considered it “a trial run, a pre-original edition of sorts. Throughout his correspondence, he refers to the 1888 edition as the first and the 1908 edition as the second." An account of the author’s ascents of the Pyrenees, from Biarritz to Perpignan.
