VERSAILLES - PHOTOGRAPHS - An oblong in-4 album in period green cloth binding containing 236 photographs (various sizes, mostly small) of the town and Palace of Versailles, 1896–1897. The album opens with a lovely handwritten title surrounded by dried plants and continues with numerous photographs, including interesting shots depicting various events such as: the Tsar’s visit in 1896; a pigeon release at the town hall; military parades and reviews; the tramway at Saint-Cyr l’Ecole; a car on the Place d’Armes, construction work on the power station, a cycle race, etc... and some rather rare photographs of tradespeople: an electric tram repair workshop; a wheelwright’s workshop; and, of course, numerous photographs of the château, many of which are of particular interest, notably the exterior views (the School of Horticulture, the Trianons, etc.)
