Description
NOE, Count of. Memoirs relating to the British expedition which set out from Bengal in 1800 to fight the Army of the Orient in Egypt. Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 1826. In-8, III, 288, 1 errata leaf, light-coloured half-basane, ribbed spine decorated with blind-stamped ironwork, gilt label at the foot, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Complete set of the 19 lithographs (H/T) watercoloured by Langlumé and 2 folding maps with raised borders. Hinges worn or split over a few centimetres, cap ends damaged, a few negligible foxing spots. First edition of this account of the Anglo-Indian expedition intended to defeat the troops left behind by Bonaparte in Egypt. The Count of Noé (1777–1858), a Peer of France, emigrated to England during the Revolution; he was the father of the illustrator Cham.
