KERGUELEN-TREMAREC, de. An Account of a Voyage in the North Sea to the Coasts of Ireland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands, Shetland, the Orkney Islands and Norway in 1767 and 1768. Paris, Prault, 1771, In-4°, VIII (2)220 pp., brown speckled calfskin with a smooth spine decorated with gold-inked metal tools, gilded headband and footband, double row of gilded fillets as a border (modern binding, in the 18th-century style, of fine workmanship (B. Dressayre, bookbinder, based in Mazamet). First edition. The illustrations comprise 18 plates, including one large fold-out map and 17 separate plates, some of which are fold-outs, with beautiful engraved vignettes on the title page and in the introduction. A fine copy printed on heavy vellum, with large illustrations. In 1763, Yves-Joseph de Kerguelen-Trémarec, then a Lieutenant in the Navy, commissioned the frigate ‘La Folle’ in 1767 to protect the cod fishery.
