Thouvenot, Étienne (1759–1818) Colonel during the Empire in 1805, then General in 1818.
Signed autograph letter, addressed to ‘my General’, Paris, 29 August 1820. 1½ pages, in-4°. He expresses concern at having received no news from a person he had recommended to the general during his stay in America. This person, Mr Cornu, who had left with his wife, was planning to set himself up as a tanner and establish a tanning business.
Gouffé Lacour de, Chevalier. Lieutenant-Colonel of the National Guard and deputy of that Guard to His Majesty.
Draft letter, undated, 2 folio pages. Memorandum proposing a retirement pension. Another undated draft letter, intended for the Baron de Launay. 3 folio pages, with marginal notes. A third draft letter requesting the Cross of St Louis. (2 copies) Exact copy of the statement [Service Record] sent to the commission in November 1814, 1 folio page in tabular form.

*Sentence to ‘run the bouline’ – Decrès, Denis (1761–1820). Minister of the Navy, Rear Admiral, Duke of the Empire. Judgement handed down by the special court-martial of the Imperial Flotilla. Judgement signed by Decrès, Minister of the Navy, and the Captain commanding the Imperial Flotilla. Boulogne, 22 April 1811. Partially printed document, 3 folio pages, with printed letterhead and engraved vignette. Jean Bibonne, a native of Bordeaux, accused of desertion, is sentenced to the punishment of a ‘course à la bouline’ carried out by ten men. This is a form of corporal punishment inflicted in the navy. The condemned man must pass between two rows of sailors who strike him with a plaited rope. A fine document.

Captain Jean Louis Caresse of Nice is authorised to depart from the port aboard the felucca Ste Thérèse, manned by seven crew members. To sail to Marseille. Paper slightly browned.
