The author, Mohammad-Hasan Khan Etemâd al-Saltana (1843-1896), was a Qâjâr statesman, writer and scholar. His text recounts the first forty years of Iranian history under the reign of the Kadjar ruler Naser al-Din Shah, or Nasreddin Shah Qajar (r. 1848-1896).
