Third volume of a commentary on the Qur'an, Kashf wa-l-Bayan 'an Tafsiri al-Qur'an, by al-Tha'labi, Mamluk Egypt or Syria, dated 5 Safar 748H./17 May 1347 Arabic manuscript on paper. 153 leaves, 25 lines per page in black ink in naskh. Numerous marginal comments. Title on the first page. Colophon dated. Numerous ownership marks including one dated 1184H./1770-71. Later Ottoman binding in brown leather decorated with a mandorla medallion stamped in the Mamluk style. Old label on the binding "Koran/24/C 408". (Minor accidents, wear, wormholes, tears, pages restored, flap and cover of binding missing, not collated). 25.5 x 17 cm; Thickness: 4.5 cm Provenance: Bibliothèque orientaliste Maisonneuve, Paris Abu Ishaq Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Tha'labi (d. 1035) was an 11th-century Muslim scholar of Persian origin.
