Part of the History of the Beginning of the Prophet's Mission, Kitâb Târîkh Mabda' Ba'that al-Nabî, by al-'Asqalani, before 1750 Large Arabic manuscript on paper. Part 5 (juz'), first half. 33 lines per page in black and red ink. On the flyleaf, inscription "Part 5", and crossed-out text indicating membership of a waqf, and dated in full Sha'ban 1168H./1755-56. Bound in tan leather with flap and cover (Accidents, wear, stains, a few pages unbound, not collated). 31 x 22 cm, Thickness: 7 cm Provenance: Bibliothèque orientaliste Maisonneuve, Paris Shihab ad-Din Abu al-Fadl Ahmad ibn Ali ibn Muhammad, known as Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (1372-1449), was a learned jurist and theologian specialising in hadith. This text does not appear to be listed among his works, as it is only the fifth part of a text.
