Book of Advice to His Son, Hayriyye-i Nâbî, by Yusuf Nabi, Ottoman, before 1151H./1738-39 Ottoman Turkish manuscript on paper, Hayriyye-i Nâbî Efendi. 17 lines per page in black and red ink, text in Turkish in nasta'liq on two columns, framed in red ink, title and chapters rubricated. Dated on the last page 1151H./1738-39. Owners' stamps. Bound in western cloth boards over soft brown morocco eastern binding (Minor accidents, several restorations, stains, wetness, not collated). 21 x 14 cm Provenance: Bibliothèque orientaliste Maisonneuve, Paris The Hayriyâ-i Nâbî is a very famous text by the Turkish poet Yûsuf Nâbî (1640-1712), written in mesnevis verse and containing moral principles and advice on ethics. This text, which is a fine satire of the Ottoman era, holds a special place in Turkish literature.
