Paris, Ruault, 1776. 1 vol. in-4 (20 x 26), bound in full calf, 5-rib spine, richly decorated boxes, triple gold framing on covers and edges, marbled edges; XII-208 pages, frontispiece engraving signed Martinet, hors texte 120 engravings, some folding, in intaglio after drawings by the author, most engraved by Thérèse Martinet, some by Avril. 80 ornithological plates, 33 botanical plates; engraved historiated headbands, initial lettering and endpapers. A famous account of Sonnerat's voyage between 1771 and 1772, in which he provides remarkable details of the Moluccas and Manila and describes for the first time numerous species such as the coco de mer, the clove, the nutmeg and the papuan penguin.
