Description
ALBUM AMICORUM.
(Brittany, Loire Valley), (c. 1900–1925).
In-12, aubergine-coloured period Russian leather, spine with raised bands highlighted by cold-stamped fillets, fillet edging on the covers, metal key-fastened clasps (forced), gilt edges, gilt scrolls on the endpapers, gilt fillet on the edges, guilloché caps (slightly scuffed at the corners, edges and raised bands).
Partly blank notebook comprising approximately 200 leaves of very fine ivory-coloured coated vellum-type paper, of which (28) pp. bear handwriting or paintings.
A charming old friendship book (early 20th century) comprising handwritten letters and poems, as well as pen-and-ink and watercolour drawings, all signed and sometimes dated. The floral theme, sometimes accompanied by verses on friendship and the ideal of otherness, is a recurring feature, at times very skilfully executed and aesthetically pleasing.
The owner of this liber amicorum appears to have been a certain Madeleine.
Notably, there are 5 folios of interesting handwritten verses organised into three colour themes, *Les Horizons*, all in the same hand, that of a certain Augustin Dubois.
Various places are mentioned: Louvilliers-en-Drouais (Loire Valley, a 19th-century church), the port of Ploumanach, and Keroulou (Côtes du Nord).
Two of the drawings are on loose leaves (different paper).
