Description
CHEVRIER (François-Antoine de) – Memoirs to serve as a history of the illustrious men of Lorraine, with a refutation of *La Bibliothèque Lorraine* by Dom Calmet, Abbot of Senones. Brussels, no publisher, 1754, in-12, 362 + 300 pp. + XXX of alphabetical index, contemporary full glazed calf bindings, smooth spines with decorative motifs, title labels in red morocco and volume numbers in green, edges painted red. Both volumes. Fine condition. François-Antoine de Chevrier was a writer from Nancy in Lorraine. He published libels and pamphlets against Stanislas Leszczynski and the theatre world. Upon learning of his death in July 1762, the actress Sophie Arnould remarked: ‘He must have worn out his pen.’ His premature death led to speculation that he had been poisoned by the French government. Chevrier published a large number of works, including pamphlets, novels, plays and even poetry.
