DURIVAL (Nicolas) – Treatise on Lorraine and the Barrois region, followed by an alphabetical and topographical index of places. Nancy: Published by Henry Thomas, 1753, in-4, 1 engraved title leaf, XVI pp., 602 pp., 1 fnch errata, contemporary speckled full calf binding, spine decorated with 5 raised bands, red morocco title label, edges painted red, corners worn but in good condition. Jean-Baptiste Luton Durival, born on 4 July 1725 in Saint-Aubin-sur-Aire and died on 14 February 1810 in Heillecourt, was a French historian. The younger brother of Nicolas Luton Durival, Jean-Baptiste succeeded his brother as secretary to the Councils of State and Finance under Stanislas, Duke of Lorraine. In 1766, he became First Secretary of Foreign Affairs under the ministry of the Duke of Choiseul. In 1777, he was sent to Holland as French minister. He contributed articles to the *Encyclopédie* on military art and left behind a number of unpublished pamphlets. He was a member of the Académie de Stanislas.
