Description
[PAVIS] - DORGELES (Roland) - *Les croix de Bois*. Paris, Mornay, 1933, in-8, 367 pp., bound in brown half-maroquin with corner caps, spine decorated with four raised bands, cover preserved. A numbered copy with illustrations by Georges Pavis. Roland Lecavelé, known as Roland Dorgelès, born on 15 June 1885 in Amiens and died on 18 March 1973 in Paris, was a French journalist and writer, a member of the Académie Goncourt from 1929 to 1973. He was a famous and rather unclassifiable writer. He began his career in Montmartre. During the First World War, he enlisted to fight despite having been exempted on health grounds; he even became a pilot and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. He subsequently worked as a journalist for *Le Canard Enchaîné*. His greatest literary success remains *Les Croix de Bois*.
