GERDOLLE and BRIQUET, publishers in Toul (Lorraine). Set of 16 uncut postcard sheets (5x4 = 20 items) depicting the town of Toul, from the ‘Pittoresque’ series (the cathedral, the bishop’s palace (now the town hall), the railway station, the Lamarche barracks, the Rigny barracks, the Dommartin airship hangar, etc.) and the surroundings of Toul: Pierre-la-Treiche, Ecrouves, Maron, Villey-le-Sec and Villey-Saint-Etienne, etc., as well as the Vosges (Vagney Saint-Amé, Neufchâteau, Vaucouleurs, etc.) 50 x 60 cm – minor imperfections, creases, tears. The negatives from the Gerdolle and Briquet company are now held at the Meurthe-et-Moselle departmental archives. As an interesting aside, the biplanes and airships visible in the sky on some of these postcards are photomontages and appear in multiple images.
