Description
GIROD DE L’AIN (Félix-Jean-Marie) Paris, J. Dumaine, 1873. Ten Years of My Military Memoirs, 1805–1815. In-8 (22 x 13.4 cm), blue half-basane, ribbed spine decorated with gilt emblems, marbled head edge, front cover preserved (contemporary binding). First edition of the memoirs of the French general and politician, Girod de l’Ain. Sent to Michel-Eugène Chevreul, ‘from the author, on behalf of the author. Sent by his respectful pupil’. A chemist and director of the Gobelins Manufactory, Chevreul worked, in particular, on the perception of colours. Binding scuffed at the corners, top and bottom; spine sun-faded; cover laminated and burnished; rare and very slight foxing on a few leaves. Bibliography – Michel-Eugène Chevreul (inscription). – Bibliothèque des Roys d’Eschandelys (emblem on the binding and bookplate).
