Description
JENKINS (James) London, printed for J. Jenkins by L. Harrison and J.C. Leigh, (1815) [1825].. The martial achievements of Great Britain and her allies from 1799 to 1815. Folio (33.6 x 26.8 cm), red morocco, gilt scrolls on the frame, decorated ribbed spine, inner scrolls, gilt edges, slipcase (modern binding). A luxurious volume devoted to the victorious campaigns of Great Britain and her allies during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. It is illustrated with hand-coloured aquatint engravings: title vignette, title page, dedication page bearing the coat of arms of the Duke of Wellington, and 51 battle plates by Thomas Sutherland after William Heath. Complete with the list of subscribers. Later printing: some plates bear the watermark ‘1825’. Most plates bear traces of erased handwritten notes in the upper margin. A few discreet restorations; the first plate has been reattached; marginal water damage to the final leaves.
