Description
LABORDE (Alexandre de) Paris, H. Nicolle, E. Lenormant, 1808. . A Descriptive Itinerary through Spain, and a Basic Overview of the Various Branches of Administration and Industry in that Kingdom. 5 vols. in-8 (20 x 12.4 cm) and one vol. gr. in-8 (21.8 x 14.4 cm) in bronze-green half-maroquin with corner pieces, smooth spine decorated with gilt motifs (contemporary binding). First edition. The atlas contains 29 copper-engraved maps (one enhanced with watercolour), some of which are folded or spread across two pages. A printed table is folded into the first volume of text. Alexandre de Laborde (1773–1842), an archaeologist and politician, was sent in 1800 to Lucien Bonaparte’s Embassy in Madrid. Bindings slightly rubbed, particularly at the corners and on the cover boards. Very slight foxing. Provenance Marquis de Poulhariez-Cavanac (heraldic bookplate bearing the motto ‘vigil et alacer’).
