Small 4to (26.8 x 17.9 cm), brown half-calf with corners, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, stone-cut edges (contemporary binding).
Lithographed title page with a vignette printed on mounted China paper and 60 lithographed plates based on the author’s drawings by Harding, Hullmandel and Westall.
The finest of the books on Spain published in England in the 19th century. Locker was in Spain during the War of Independence in 1813, serving as secretary to the Mediterranean Fleet.
Spine reattached to a re-bound half-leather binding; corners worn with losses. Foxing.
