OMAN (Charles) Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1902–1930. A History of the Peninsular War. 7 vols. in-8 (22 x 13.7 cm), red percaline Bradel binding, emblems on the covers, plain spine, gilt lettering on the heads of vols. I to V (publisher’s binding). First edition, very richly illustrated with 117 engravings, including 77 maps and plans. The publishing project spanned almost 30 years, owing to the author’s commitment to exhaustiveness and scientific rigour, as well as to the First World War, which delayed the publication of the final two volumes by eight years. A rare, complete copy of one of the most important works on the Spanish Civil War. Spines sun-faded, cap bands damaged, very rare foxing on the reverse of some plates.
