Description
PETRONI (Stefano Egidio) Naples, published in France, 1809. Napoleonide. In-4 (28.2 x 20.9 cm), moss-green long-grain half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First edition of this great lyrical and numismatic poem comprising one hundred Italian odes celebrating Napoleonic virtues up to the Peace of Tilsit, accompanied by emblematic medals inscribed in Latin. 101 line-engraved copper medals appear within the text, comprising: one on the title page (a portrait of the Emperor) and 100 at the beginning of each ode. They were engraved by Tommaso Piroli after drawings by Benoît Pécheux. The text is in Italian. The work underwent revisions for a bilingual edition (printing of which began in 1811) that was never completed, followed by an edition in 1813, also bilingual, presenting the complete revised version of the Italian text.
