*El redactor general* was one of the leading daily newspapers in Cádiz from 1811 to 1814, during the Spanish War of Independence. It was founded by Pedro Daza de Guzmán at a time when Cádiz had become the new seat of the Spanish government opposing the Napoleonic invasion. The year 1811 is of particular interest, as it saw much of the debate in the Cortes of Cádiz (the constituent assembly) centred on a body of legislation that would culminate in 1812 in Spain’s first Constitution.
The spine is sun-faded; there are small wormholes on all the leaves, with some damage to the text; a few foxing spots on certain leaves; and significant water stains on the last leaf.
