Description
VERNET (Carle) Paris, Administration of the merged newspapers *Le Constitutionnel* and *Le Pays*, [c. 1850].. French Campaigns under the Consulate and the Empire. Album. Folio (48.5 x 33.5 cm), dark blue half-shagreen with corner pieces, ribbed spine, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A collection of 57 large plates after Carle Vernet, Swebach, Le Compte, Vauthier, etc., engraved on copper, depicting portraits in medallions and battle scenes, preceded by a portrait of Napoleon with facsimiles of his signatures. The title page lists 60 plates, but this includes the title page and the table of contents. All copies do indeed contain these 57 plates and the facsimile. Binding slightly rubbed. A few scattered foxing spots.
