An important collection of engravings, well preserved. *Description de l’Égypte*, a monumental publishing undertaking spanning more than 30 years, would synthesise the discoveries and research carried out on site by the scholars who took part in Bonaparte’s Egyptian Campaign. As for *Voyage dans la basse et la haute Égypte* (*Journey through Lower and Upper Egypt*), written by Dominique-Vivant Denon, a participant in the expedition, it was published as early as 1802, four years before the first instalments of *Description* appeared.
