A substantial folio volume (30.5 x 21.5 cm), fawn sheepskin, gilt decorative borders on the covers, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs (19th-century binding).

Second edition of this exegetical work, one of St Augustine’s most important.
The work is divided into three quinquagena (sets of fifty folios), bound together.
Missing: the first blank folio, folio AA1 and folio b8 (blank) of the Annotations (here bound at the end of the volume). Folio a3 and folio 288 were transcribed by hand in the 19th century.
Binding slightly rubbed, fore-edges partially split. Small, faint water-stains along the edges of the leaves.

Philippe Cénac (dry stamp, bearing the motto ‘Que sais-je?’, on the first blank flyleaf).
