COLER (Johann) Wittenberg, Paul Helwigs, 1622–1623. Calendarium perpetuum & sex libri œconomici. 2 parts in one sturdy small folio volume (31.4 x 19.1 cm), sow’s hide on wooden boards, covers embossed with monastic scrolls and fleurons in blind stamping, ribbed spine, handwritten title, clasps (contemporary binding). [6] ff., 272 (of 276) pp., [12] ff.– [4] ff., 1164 pp. (incorrectly numbered as 1187), [25] ff. ):(6, A–I6, K4, L–Z6, Aa–Bb6.– A4, b–z6, aa–zz6, aaa–zzz6, aaaa–zzzz6, Aaaaa6, bbbbb–iiiii6, kkkkk7. Printed in Gothic and round type, in two columns. Portraits of Jacob and Johann Coler and a great many illustrations within the text, all wood-engraved. The illustrations depict plants, animals, rural scenes and domestic life. Johann Coler’s ‘Perpetual Calendar’ was first published in 1591. Worn binding with a few small losses and a large, fairly light stain on the back cover; fastenings replaced. An ink stain affecting pages 591 to 604 (pages 591 to 595 are heavily stained) and the second half of the gutter; foxing, fragile paper, a few worn page corners.
