Description
GUILLEVIC (Eugène) Paris, Éditions Sagesse, Librairie Tschann, [1938]. Requiem. In-8 (20.7 x 15.8 cm), black half-maroquin with small corners, plain spine, title label in orange calfskin running the length of the spine, gilt head, slipcase (D.–H. Mercher).   A very rare first edition of the poet’s first book. One of 6 special copies printed on Chinese paper (no. 3). A beautiful autographed dedication to his wife Lucie Albertini: ‘To Bizza, my beloved, who has given me what even the best scarcely dare to dream of, and who knows that writing a poem is still, for me, a way of adoring her. Your [? illegible] faithful as the earth.” The dedication, written in ink, was first amended in ballpoint pen with the words “I shall always love you” – which were then crossed out – and replaced with “I owe it to you that I have known joy and happiness ’. Both these notes are signed with the initial E.
