Complete set of etchings for *Trois églises*.
A very fine set, probably the finest after the Descamps-Scrive copy.
Complete set of the 21 original etchings with annotations by Charles Jouas to illustrate Joris-Karl Huysmans’ *Trois églises*. They are printed on heavy paper.
In addition to this set:
– 11 large original drawings, signed and dated (1911 to 1921), in pencil, dry pastels and Conté chalks, including the three intertitles.
– a series of 11 pure etchings with notes, on Japanese paper, signed in pencil.
– the pure etching on Japanese paper, signed; the final state, signed; and the print on gilded satin of the etching intended to adorn the front inside cover of the publisher’s binding.
– the pure etching on Japanese paper, signed; the final state, signed; the signed colour etching (copy no. 1/3) and the print on gilded satin of the etching intended to adorn the second endpaper of the publisher’s binding.
‘One of Jouas’s finest books. A highly prized volume with its various states’ (Carteret).
The plates are mounted on mat boards and the set is preserved in a mismatched folder and slipcase.
Some foxing.
