[JOUAS.– HUYSMANS] [Paris, René Kieffer, 1920]. Complete set of etchings for *Trois églises*. A very fine set, probably the finest after the Descamps-Scrive copy. Complete set of the 21 original etchings with annotations by Charles Jouas to illustrate Joris-Karl Huysmans’ *Trois églises*. They are printed on heavy paper. In addition to this set: – 11 large original drawings, signed and dated (1911 to 1921), in pencil, dry pastels and Conté chalks, including the three intertitles. – a series of 11 pure etchings with notes, on Japanese paper, signed in pencil. – the pure etching on Japanese paper, signed; the final state, signed; and the print on gilded satin of the etching intended to adorn the front inside cover of the publisher’s binding. – the pure etching on Japanese paper, signed; the final state, signed; the signed colour etching (copy no. 1/3) and the print on gilded satin of the etching intended to adorn the second endpaper of the publisher’s binding. ‘One of Jouas’s finest books. A highly prized volume with its various states’ (Carteret). The plates are mounted on mat boards and the set is preserved in a mismatched folder and slipcase. Some foxing.
