Description
MORRIS (William) London, Kelmscott Press, [1893]. News from Nowhere: Or, an Epoch of Rest. In-8 (20.5 x 14 cm), vellum with flaps, plain spine embossed with the title and author’s name in gold, green silk ribbons (publisher’s binding).   An illustrated edition featuring a woodcut frontispiece depicting Kelmscott House, engraved by C. M. Gere, as well as a floral border opposite the frontispiece and numerous woodcut initials. Originally published as a serial in the magazine *Commonweal*, the first complete edition was printed in the United States by Roberts Brothers, without the author’s permission. The book was republished in 1891 by Reeves and Turner. This version of the text, which included a few corrections, was used by Kelmscott Press, Morris’s publishing house. This edition took two years to produce due to the preparation of the frontispiece by Gere. Limited to 310 copies, this is one of the 300 printed on laid paper. In good condition despite a slightly soiled binding.   Bibliography Cockerell, 12. Peterson, A12. William Morris Gallery, *News From Nowhere: Or, An Epoch of Rest, Being Some Chapters from a Utopian Romance* (1893) (online).
