[ROCHEGROSSE].– - FLAUBERT (Gustave) Paris, Ferroud, 1907. The Temptation of Saint Anthony. In-4 (29 x 21.4 cm), red shagreen, gilt lace border, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, interior lace, covers and spine preserved (modern binding). An edition illustrated with 31 colour etchings based on works by Georges Antoine Rochegrosse and executed by Eugène Decisy. The subscription leaf, featuring a colour engraving replicating that on p. 182, is present. Limited edition of 350 copies, one of 20 on Arches vellum paper featuring three states of the etchings (in colour, both ‘avant la lettre’ and ‘après la lettre’, and in black) and an original watercolour by Rochegrosse corresponding to the illustration on the header of Chapter I (No. VIII). This copy is enhanced by: – An original watercolour by Rochegrosse corresponding to the frontispiece. – An autograph letter from Rochegrosse to Gustave Soulier. 1 p. in-12. Paris, undated. Thanks for his ‘kind appreciation of my *Queen of Sheba*; I was deeply touched by this further token of sympathy you have shown me, and I ask you to accept my heartfelt gratitude’. – A self-portrait by Rochegrosse, an etching on Chinese paper engraved by Lalauze for the Mariani wine album, *Figures contemporaines*. A very fine copy of *The Temptation of Saint Anthony* featuring engravings in three states and an original watercolour, enhanced by a second watercolour, a letter and an engraved self-portrait. The copy is in fine condition, with a few rare browned pages.
