[ROCHEGROSSE].– - VILLIERS de L’ISLE-ADAM (Auguste de) Paris, Louis Conard, 1906. Akëdysséril. In-4 (31.1 x 22.3 cm), brown half-maroquin with corner pieces, covers in grained ochre percaline, author’s name and titles gilt on the top cover, ribbed spine, gilt head (contemporary binding). An illustrated edition featuring 15 figures in the text, colour-engraved by Louis Mortier after watercolours by Georges Rochegrosse. Limited edition of 190 numbered copies; one of 20 on Imperial Japanese paper (no. 20, second paper), including an original watercolour used as a study for the illustration and a draft of one of the compositions with corrections by Rochegrosse (‘without veering into egg yolk, however, the whole thing ought to have a more golden atmosphere’). Enclosed is a signed autograph note by Georges Rochegrosse dated 4 June 1891: ‘Received from Monsieur du Bochet the sum of two hundred francs for a drawing “Nourmahal”. ” Provenance Guy Bigorie (bookplate).
